Meeting Minutes February 16, 2019

EAA Chapter 1167

Old Business:

• I ordered the Name Tags for all members on Duane’s ledger listed as paid in full for 2019.

• James Ray Scholarship application status. The Chapter is to nominate students and if the Chapter if selected then the money is delivered in April with the expectation that the student completes their PPL by year end.

  • The application was submitted February 11^th with supporting letters of cooperation. The chapter selection will be made March 15 and we will present our youth applicants. The estimated date for having funds available is May 2019. In support of this program, Doug has loaned his certified Precision Control Simulator, an iPad, and the complete King Flight video collection to the club. These videos are on VHS (80 tapes) but if anyone has time to help me convert them to digital, that would be helpful. Jesse will help with the VHS conversion to DVD.

New Business:

• Al Beck, the force behind our Young Eagles program, will be leaving us this spring. Many thanks to Al for all the passion and drive he’s brought to the Chapter.

• Al’s departure leaves vacant the position of Young Eagle Coordinator – Volunteers please call Larry or send a note to EAA1167@gmail.com soon so that a transition can be established.

Main Discussion:

• New arrival procedures for AirVenture next year.

• Sun-N-Fun get together planning. We need to meet up and sign in at the EAA office as a Chapter visiting.

• Discussed changes to the grounds and the on-campus school from the James Ray endowment.

• Larry will likely be out from Labor day through August teaching at the Air Academy in Oshkosh - Out Next month for Sebring but here April and May.

• Fly-in plan for May 18th with a rain day the 19th. Let's coordinate YE flights.

• Rusty Pilot program coming to Wilmington this Spring.

• Larry will coordinate to get an FAA rep in to give a talk for our group.

• Oshkosh planning - Ron has a room that will be empty for a couple of days. Coordinate with him if interested (His contact info on the home page).

• Ron still working to get private hangers at Hardy Air Park. Looking for interest in owning their own hanger on the field.

• Discussed electric vehicles and new electric airplane technologies.

• Discussed "Commuter aircraft's" Innovator vehicle that uses a Lycoming engine to fly then electric motors for ground operation.

Tech Talk:

• Ron brought in his 3D printer that he's experimenting with to build air boxes for his alternators. Prices run from $100 to $3000 for a printer. His is in the $500 price range and can print up to 12 inch by 15 inch parts. Different nozzles allow for rough bulk printing of larger items or fine control for higher precision or smaller parts. The size also impacts the amount of time it takes to print the parts.

• TinkerCad is a site that allows someone to design parts and then they will print the parts out and send to you. #! verify site link and services.

• Dennis tried the software and he found it very easy to pick up and use with less than an hour of playing with it.

• Can use any CAD software you like but it has to output to .stl files.
